Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head of cauliflower, cut into florets
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup teriyaki sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Chopped green onions, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Wash the cauliflower thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
- Cut the cauliflower into bite-sized florets, keeping them uniform in size for even cooking.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cauliflower florets with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Toss until well-coated.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the seasoned cauliflower florets in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
- Roast in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and tender. Toss halfway through for even cooking.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the teriyaki sauce, honey or maple syrup (if using), sesame oil, and rice vinegar. Stir well.
- Heat over medium heat until the sauce begins to simmer.
- Add the cornstarch mixed with water, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens (about 2-3 minutes). Add a splash of water if it gets too thick.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
- Once roasted, let the cauliflower cool for a few minutes.
- Transfer to a large mixing bowl and pour the thickened BBQ teriyaki sauce over it. Toss gently to coat evenly.
- For extra flavor, return the coated cauliflower to the baking sheet and roast for an additional 5-10 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute.
- Transfer to a serving platter. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
- Serve immediately while warm and sticky, pairing with steamed rice, quinoa, or a fresh salad.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey/maple syrup according to your taste.
- For a spicier kick, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the seasoning mix.
