Description

This Spicy Beef and Broccoli dish features tender flank steak and vibrant broccoli in a savory sauce, making it a quick and flavorful option for weeknight dinners. It’s easy to prepare and pairs perfectly with rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 cups of broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of chili paste (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup of beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or noodles for serving

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and sugar. Add the sliced flank steak and mix well to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for enhanced flavor.
  2. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and blanch for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop cooking, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and sear for 2-3 minutes without stirring. Stir and cook for another 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the beef broth and chili paste, stirring to combine and scraping up any browned bits. Simmer for 2-3 minutes to reduce slightly. Stir in the sesame oil and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet along with the blanched broccoli. Toss to coat in the sauce and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
  6. Remove from heat and serve the spicy beef and broccoli over cooked rice or noodles. Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds or sliced green onions before serving.
