Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 8 slices of bread (white or brioche recommended)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Additional powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Use a hand mixer or a whisk to blend the ingredients until smooth and creamy. Ensure there are no lumps for a velvety texture.
- Gently fold in the sliced strawberries, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the cream cheese mixture. Set aside.
- Lay out the 8 slices of bread on a clean surface. For thicker filling, use fewer slices.
- Spread a generous amount of the cheesecake filling on 4 of the bread slices, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Top each filled slice with another slice of bread to create a sandwich. Press down gently to seal the edges, and crimp with a fork if desired.
- In a shallow dish, add the all-purpose flour. In a second dish, crack the eggs and whisk until well beaten. In a third dish, combine the breadcrumbs, cinnamon (if using), and salt.
- Set up your breading station in the order of flour, egg wash, and breadcrumbs.
- Coat each sandwich in flour, shaking off excess.
- Dip the floured sandwich into the egg wash, allowing excess to drip off.
- Roll the sandwich in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat for all sandwiches.
- In a large skillet, pour enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom by about 1/2 inch. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place 2-3 sandwiches in the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs to flip gently.
- Remove from oil and place on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Repeat with remaining sandwiches.
- Dust the fried sandwiches with additional powdered sugar.
- Cut each sandwich in half diagonally to showcase the filling.
- Serve warm, optionally with fresh strawberries or whipped cream for dipping.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of lemon juice to the cheesecake filling.
- These sandwiches can be made ahead of time and reheated in an oven for a few minutes to regain crispiness.
