Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of thick bread (such as brioche or challah)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (whole or any preferred type)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal
- Butter or oil for frying
- Maple syrup, for serving
- Powdered sugar, for garnish (optional)
- Fresh fruit (such as strawberries or bananas, optional)
Instructions
- Start by crushing the Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. Place the cereal in a large zip-top bag and use a rolling pin or your hands to crush it into small pieces. You want a mix of fine crumbs and larger chunks for texture. Alternatively, you can pulse the cereal in a food processor for a few seconds until you reach the desired consistency.
- Transfer the crushed cereal to a shallow dish or plate. This will be used for coating the French toast later.
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, crack the 2 large eggs and whisk them until the yolks and whites are fully combined.
- Add 1/2 cup of milk to the eggs and continue whisking until the mixture is smooth.
- Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Take your slices of thick bread and dip each slice into the egg mixture. Make sure to coat both sides thoroughly, allowing any excess batter to drip off.
- Immediately after dipping, place the coated bread slice into the crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. Press down gently to ensure the cereal adheres well to the bread. Flip the slice over and repeat the process on the other side.
- Repeat this process for all slices of bread, ensuring each slice is well-coated with the cereal mixture.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of butter or oil to the pan, allowing it to melt and coat the surface evenly.
- Once the skillet is hot, carefully place the coated French toast slices onto the skillet. Do not overcrowd the pan; you may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your skillet.
- Cook the French toast for about 3-4 minutes on one side, or until it is golden brown and crispy. Use a spatula to check the underside for doneness.
- Once the first side is cooked, flip the slices over and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the cooked French toast from the skillet and place it on a plate. If you are cooking in batches, you can keep the cooked slices warm in a low oven (around 200°F or 93°C) while you finish cooking the remaining slices.
- Once all the French toast slices are cooked, stack them on individual plates or a large serving platter.
- Drizzle warm maple syrup generously over the top of the French toast. You can also add a dusting of powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness and presentation.
- If desired, top with fresh fruit such as sliced strawberries, bananas, or blueberries for added flavor and nutrition.
- Serve immediately while warm, and enjoy your delicious Cinnamon Toast Crunch French Toast!
Notes
- For an even richer flavor, consider using flavored milk, such as vanilla or almond milk.
- Experiment with different types of bread. While brioche and challah are excellent choices, you can also use sourdough or even gluten-free bread for a different twist.
- If you want to add a little extra flavor, consider mixing in a pinch of nutmeg or using flavored extracts.
