Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for swirl)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using).
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold together until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon.
  6. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan. Pour half of the batter into the pan, then sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over it. Pour the remaining batter on top and sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon sugar mixture. Use a knife to gently swirl the mixture into the batter.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed.
  10. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread and let it set for a few minutes.
  11. Slice the bread and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy plain or with butter.
  12. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze slices for up to a month.

Notes

  • Ensure the melted butter is not too hot when mixing with the eggs to avoid cooking them.
  • For a richer flavor, consider adding chopped nuts or chocolate chips to the batter.
  • This bread is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for a few days or frozen for later enjoyment.
