Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter
- 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (90g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup (180g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup (120ml) brewed coffee (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Add the granulated sugar to the melted butter and stir until well combined. The mixture should be smooth and glossy.
- In a separate bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them lightly. Add the eggs to the butter and sugar mixture, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and brewed coffee (if using) until fully combined.
- In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently with a spatula or wooden spoon. Stop as soon as you see no dry flour.
- Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. To check for doneness, insert a toothpick into the center of the brownies; it should come out with a few moist crumbs.
- Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes.
- After cooling slightly, transfer the brownies to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, use a sharp knife to cut them into squares or rectangles.
- If desired, dust the top of the brownies with powdered sugar for an elegant finish.
- For an extra indulgent treat, serve the brownies warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
- Store any leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. You can also freeze them for longer storage.
Notes
- Use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips for the best flavor.
- Do not overmix the batter after adding the dry ingredients to avoid dense brownies.
- For fudgier brownies, reduce the baking time slightly; for cakier brownies, increase the baking time by a few minutes.
- Experiment with add-ins like nuts or different types of chocolate chips to customize your brownies.
