Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed and drained)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray or butter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Melt the butter and let it cool slightly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined.
  6. Fold in the blueberries.
  7. Fill each cavity of the donut pan about 2/3 full with the batter.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  10. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  11. Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the glaze and let set on the wire rack.

Notes

  • For a fun twist, you can add lemon zest to the batter for a refreshing flavor.
  • These donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • If using frozen blueberries, ensure they are well-drained to avoid excess moisture in the batter.
