  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Enjoy the vibrant and spicy flavors of Blackened Shrimp, seasoned to perfection and seared for a crispy finish. This quick dish is perfect for any occasion, served with fresh lime and garnished with parsley for a delightful presentation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the shrimp under cold water to remove any grit or sand, then pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Add the shrimp to the bowl, drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, and toss until evenly coated. Let marinate for 15-20 minutes at room temperature.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat (preferably cast-iron). Add the butter and let it melt until bubbling, being careful not to burn it.
  5. Add the marinated shrimp to the skillet in a single layer, avoiding overcrowding. Cook for 2-3 minutes without moving them to develop a nice char.
  6. Flip the shrimp and cook for another 2-3 minutes until opaque and blackened.
  7. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and transfer to a plate. Drizzle any leftover butter from the skillet over the shrimp for added flavor.
  8. Arrange the blackened shrimp on a platter, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve with lime wedges on the side.

Notes

  • Adjust the cayenne pepper for more heat if desired.
  • For a smoky flavor, consider adding smoked paprika to the spice mix.
  • If using frozen shrimp, ensure they are fully thawed before starting.
  • Leftover shrimp can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • For a more substantial dish, add sautéed vegetables like bell peppers and onions after cooking the shrimp.
  • For a creamy sauce, add a splash of heavy cream to the skillet after removing the shrimp and stir to combine.
