Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 lime, cut into wedges (for serving)
Instructions
- Rinse the shrimp under cold water to remove any grit or sand, then pat dry with paper towels.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, salt, and black pepper.
- Add the shrimp to the bowl, drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, and toss until evenly coated. Let marinate for 15-20 minutes at room temperature.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat (preferably cast-iron). Add the butter and let it melt until bubbling, being careful not to burn it.
- Add the marinated shrimp to the skillet in a single layer, avoiding overcrowding. Cook for 2-3 minutes without moving them to develop a nice char.
- Flip the shrimp and cook for another 2-3 minutes until opaque and blackened.
- Remove the shrimp from the skillet and transfer to a plate. Drizzle any leftover butter from the skillet over the shrimp for added flavor.
- Arrange the blackened shrimp on a platter, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve with lime wedges on the side.
Notes
- Adjust the cayenne pepper for more heat if desired.
- For a smoky flavor, consider adding smoked paprika to the spice mix.
- If using frozen shrimp, ensure they are fully thawed before starting.
- Leftover shrimp can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- For a more substantial dish, add sautéed vegetables like bell peppers and onions after cooking the shrimp.
- For a creamy sauce, add a splash of heavy cream to the skillet after removing the shrimp and stir to combine.
