Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound of bacon, cut into thirds
- 1 package of water crackers (about 30 crackers)
- 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (optional, for a spicy kick)
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
- Cooking spray or parchment paper for baking
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or spray it with cooking spray.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and paprika.
- Dip each piece of bacon into the sugar mixture, ensuring its well-coated.
- Place the coated bacon on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each piece.
- Bake the bacon for about 15-20 minutes, until crispy but not burnt.
- Remove the bacon from the oven and let it cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes.
- Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess grease.
- While the bacon cools, arrange the water crackers in a single layer on a serving platter or large baking sheet.
- Place a piece of bacon on top of each cracker and sprinkle a little leftover sugar mixture on top.
- Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese over each bacon-topped cracker.
- Return the assembled crackers to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the crackers cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with a tangy dipping sauce or pickles.
Notes
- For a spicier version, consider using pepper jack cheese.
- Turkey bacon can be used for a healthier option, though it may not crisp up as well.
- Feel free to experiment with different spices in the sugar mixture, such as adding cinnamon for a unique twist.
- If serving a crowd, consider doubling the recipe as they tend to disappear quickly!
